Ready Player Two on the way
During an interview with Showbiz 411 at Universal Pictures’ gala party at Soho House following the 2024 Oscars, Spielberg shared news regarding his future plans. The director said no projects would go into production in 2024, emphasizing that he was in a “discovery phase” to determine his next challenges. However, he confirmed his involvement as a producer on the Ready Player One sequel.
Steven Spielberg has therefore confirmed his role as producer in the highly anticipated sequel, Ready Player Two. This announcement comes after years of uncertainty over the making of this sequel. The original film, adapted from the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline and co-written by Zak Penn, transports viewers to a dystopian future. Individuals seeking to escape reality immerse themselves in a virtual reality simulation called OASIS, exploring a universe rich in popular culture references. The cast of the first film included actors such as Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, TJ Miller, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance. We don’t yet know if any of them will be back for the sequel.
An obvious success but a sequel that had difficulty getting started
