the rest moves forward and will push the limits of GOTY 2023

Larian Studios is not letting up its efforts after winning the Game of the Year 2023 award for Baldur’s Gate 3. The sequel is coming and it’s already promising according to the big boss of the studio.

After a mixed evening, the Game Awards 2023 made Baldur’s Gate 3 the GOTY 2023 a few weeks ago. A distinction that deeply moved Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, and the developers present at the ceremony. And it’s not stolen as the RPG inflicted a monumental slap in the face to all those who had the courage, and the time, to embark on this epic. A new benchmark after Divinity: Original Sin II which was already close to perfection. Will the teams be able to do better? It seems to be going well in any case.

The heir to Baldur’s Gate 3 looks very promising

Even if Baldur’s Gate 3 has just been born, so to speak, the sequel is already in the works. Larian Studios outlines the outline of their new game which still promises to be massive. After the Game Awards 2023, Swen Vinckle, the studio boss, said he was “be very excited” later Baldur’s Gate 3. A global success which encourages the latter and his teams to “pushing many boundaries” established by BG3. A game that will not see the light of day for several years, but Swen Vincke confided in his progress. He already has the first act in mind and his enthusiasm has not waned. A future GOTY like Baldur’s Gate 3?

I had a perfect morning! After four months of rewriting, abandoning ideas and then reconsidering them, I finally determined what Act 1 of the project I’m working on should look like. When it’s revealed, cite these tweets to see how many drafts survived. But I think there will be many.

[…] I haven’t told anyone about it yet, and others may end up finding it bad. I will then disappear this thread, go sit in a corner with my dog and pretend nothing happened. And I’ll do it all again. But I think I really like what I have here. […] I’m very happy with how things are turning out, and I just wanted to share my excitement. It will be a while before we can talk about it.

A release window for Larian Studio’s new game?

The new game that will follow Baldur’s Gate 3 is therefore far from being released, but Swen Vincke may have unwittingly revealed a release window. Following her lengthy thread on X, content creator Brittney Brombacher responded “GOTY 2029? ». And the CEO didn’t hit the mark with a rather astonishing statement. “I was going to say “very funny”, but I counted on my fingers”. So be careful, this is in no way an official announcement, but Swen Vincke already seems to have a release window in mind for her future baby, despite the hazards mentioned in her messages.

For its part, Baldur’s Gate 3 received its first patch (hotfix 16) of the year! With this update, players will be able to use quest items that were sent to the camp, whether voluntarily or not. Then, there is something new for the cross-save functionality which allows you to keep your progress on different platforms. Saves that are created with PC mods will no longer sync. This will end compatibility issues on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Baldur’s Gate 3 mini-patch also fixes issues with textures, progress recording and crashes.
