Remain Emmanuel Macron five more years of France’s president? Or creates his challenger Marine Le Pen entering the Élysée Palace? France is voting on this in the runoff today. The polling stations are open until 8 p.m., after which the first projections are expected. In this article you will find projections, results and the most important graphics updated throughout the evening and night.
In the first ballot, Macron prevailed with 27.8 percent of the votes. Le Pen came second with 23.2 percent. (Here you will find an overview of all the results of the first round.) Since no one received more than 50 percent of the votes, a runoff was held.
Macron and Le Pen ran against each other in the second round of the 2017 presidential election. At that time, the result was clear: Macron was able to prevail against Le Pen with 66.1 percent of the votes. She received 33.9 percent of the vote. In almost every part of the country, Macron got more votes than his challenger.
This time it should be tighter. Polls put Macron back in front with around 56 percent. Since the first ballot on April 10, Macron has been able to extend his lead over Le Pen. A similar development could already be observed in 2017 after the first ballot.
