Technophiles who love toasted toast may remember the Revolution Cooking R180 toaster and its large touch screen. Despite its “wow” side, this innovation did not really charm other manufacturers, who stuck to the good old traditional control panels made up of physical buttons and dials. Only Tineco had dared to take the plunge with the Toasty One. This lack of enthusiasm did not prevent Revolution Cooking from going back to the drawing board to offer the R270, a toaster in line with the R180 with some advances however.

We therefore find the famous touch screen which serves as a control panel. When the R270 is not used, a clock (analog or digital in appearance, your choice) replaces it. Thanks to these tactile features, the user can choose with their fingertips the type of bread they will toast: toast, bagel, muffin, waffle… One of the new features on the R270 is the consideration of gluten-free bakery preparations. According to the manufacturer, gluten-free recipes should be toasted differently than traditional breads. The 16 automatic programs of the R270 are therefore available in two versions (traditional and gluten-free), making 32 recipes in total.

Another advance compared to the R180, the R270 includes an accessory for grilling paninis. After placing the filled Italian bread in what looks like a waffle iron, we insert the latter into the slot of the toaster then start the heating. A final accessory extends the versatility of the Revolution Cooking toaster: a grid to be placed above the appliance allows you to heat pastries or cakes. Note that this already exists on other much less expensive toasters.

Just like the R180 before it, the R270 benefits from instaGLO technology. According to the manufacturer, this cooking method, ten times faster than traditional heating elements, does not dry out the bread. Please also note that the rise of the toast is automatic and that an audible signal sounds when the bread is ready.

An expensive product, and soon to be outdated?

Revolution Cooking toasters are expensive products, and the R270 retails for $400. But if this type of toaster appeals to you, perhaps it would be wise to wait a little before giving in. Indeed, during CES 2024, Sean Robbins, marketing director of Revolution Cooking, revealed that the company was already working on an Internet-connected toaster. The screen will display certain essential information when waking up, such as the weather, traffic conditions or even the day’s schedule. And the connection will also allow you to update the toaster, improve its heating performance or even download specific browning programs. However, no concept was presented and the release date and price were not communicated.
