The Rings of Power: How did Gandalf and the other wizards get to Middle-earth?

Their work significantly influenced the fate of humans, elves and hobbits. Five wizards were sent by the Valar to aid and guide the peoples of Middle-earth in their fight against Sauron. But could the wizards already have appeared in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”?

Many mysteries surround the robed old wise men, known by many names. Knowing their history and origins allows one to better understand Tolkien’s entire work and allows new and exciting insights into Middle-earth.

The wizards seen in Middle-earth are all immortal Maiar spirits. Maiar are the servants of the great Valar and can change form at will. Though not as powerful as the Valar, the Maiar are worshiped by both Elves and Men. Each of the five magicians learned a lot from the Valar as Maia and acquired different skills and characteristics.

They could also actively intervene in the affairs of Middle-earth and its inhabitants. They helped them in times of need, giving comfort and strengthening the hearts and souls of Elves and Men. The Balrogs and Sauron also belong to the Maiar, but were tainted and corrupted by Morgoth, causing them to fall to evil.

Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast and 2 other unknown wizards are also called Istari. With the special mission of the Valar to help the threatened peoples against Sauron, they came to Middle-earth as emissaries. This, however, in secret, in the form of elderly men.
