The series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” shows Galadriel as a young elven warrior, contrasting with the wise and serene personality she displays in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. The actress explains.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has just started on Prime Video, and some fan reviews have noted a stark difference between the series on one side and the Peter Jackson films and novels on the other. Indeed, The Rings of Power paints the portrait of a warrior and combatant Galadriel, where the cinema rather emphasized her wise and reserved aspect.
Asked by variety on this potential paradox, the interpreter of Galadriel, Morfydd Clark, has a very clear answer:
I would say his serenity was hard won. I don’t think that one reaches this level of wisdom without having gone through hardships. She also mentions the fact that gaining wisdom makes you lose a part of innocence, which was a very good thing for me, coming from the lore [le lore désigne ici le savoir à propos d’un univers donné, NdlR].
Recall that the series takes place in the Second Age, several thousand years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s books. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

“How young are you when you are thousands of years old”asks Clark. “So we were thinking about the innocence that was lost in that time. Upon reaching the Third Age, the elves evolved to a certain degree. The First Age elves mocked each other, fought each other, betrayed. They are the history of Middle-earth and ever-changing.”
This evolution of elves in Tolkien’s official universe therefore opened the door to evolve Galadriel, according to Morfydd Clark:
It was really interesting for all of us who play canon characters to explore how those characters become what we know of them.
