The Rings of Power – Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video): a release date and a threatening teaser for the spin-off series from The Lord of the Rings


“An evil, ancient and powerful, has returned.” The tone is set in the first trailer for season 2 of the Prime Video series based on the universe of JRR Tolkien. The formidable Sauron is indeed at the heart of the Lord of the Rings: Rings of Powerthe sequel to which will be broadcast on August 29 on the Amazon streaming platform.

“Prepare for battle”

Middle-earth is still in danger in the teaser, as Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and company realize that Sauron is among them and darkness begins to spread. Still played by Charlie Vickers, the former servant of Morgoth appears in a new form in this second season, sporting an elvish look which allows him to better deceive his adversaries.

Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series continues to explore the Second Age imagined by Tolkien. As the teaser below indicates, the evil threat of Sauron will grow in new episodes which will see him oversee the creation of the Rings of Power with the aim of binding all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.

This rise in power of the Dark Lord is therefore highlighted in these images, which also give us the opportunity to see what seems to be the Dark Tower, the disturbing residence of Sauron in Mordor.

The second season of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is produced by showrunners and executive producers JD Payne and Patrick McKay. A behind-the-scenes video from the series was also posted online by Prime Video, in which the actors talk about their characters.

Morfydd Clark thus specifies that, in her fight to stop Sauron, Galadriel is more than ever connected to Middle-earth. Owain Arthur explains for his part that Prince Durin IV’s pride took a hit following his paternal dispute. Everyone agrees that the stakes of this season 2 are much higher than before.

This making-of also allows us to appreciate the grandiose sets of this production, as a reminder one of the most expensive from Amazon Studios. The budget for season 1 was around $700 million including the acquisition of the rights to the epic Lord of the Rings.

Amazon Prime Video undoubtedly hopes that these new episodes will meet the same success as season 1 of the series, which was viewed by more than 100 million people around the world.
