What is the story of the Rings of Power series?
Developed by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, two names almost unknown to the general public, Rings of Power recounts events that occurred thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, the series follows the creation of the rings of power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance of Elves and Men.

What is the budget for The Rings of Power series?
Produced by and for Amazon Prime Video, Rings of Power is the most expensive series in the history of the small screen. For five seasons, it should cost more than a billion dollars, or about 200 million euros per chapter. By way of comparison, the budget for the spectacular eighth season of Game Of Thrones amounted to $80 million.
When is the Rings of Power release date?
The first two episodes of Rings of Power will premiere September 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video. The rest of the season will then be broadcast at the rate of one episode per week, every Friday.

What is the timeline of the Rings of Power?
Series Rings of Power takes place 7000 years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It recounts events that occurred during the Second Age of Middle-earth, when the cinematic trilogies were centered on the Third Age.
Who is in the cast of Rings of Power?
Although Rings of Power takes place several millennia before The Lord of the Rings, some of the iconic characters from Peter Jackson’s trilogy will appear in the Amazon series. This is particularly the case of Galadriel. Superbly embodied by Cate Blanchett on the big screen, the Elf will be played by Morfydd Clarkbest known for her appearances in Dracula and His Dark Materials. The character of Elrond, played by Hugo Weaving in the film trilogy, will return in the guise of Robert Aramayointerpreter of young Ned Stark in Game Of Thrones.
Cynthia Addai-Robinson will play Míriel, the queen of Númenor. Owain Arthur will be Durin I, prince of the Dwarven city of Khazad-dûm, and Maxim Baldry will succeed Harry Sinclair as Isildur. Nazanin Boniadi, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Lenny Henry, Markella Kavenagh, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Simon Merrells, Tyroe Muhafidin, Peter Mullan, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and more others are also in the cast.
Which Lord of the Rings characters are in The Rings of Power?
Although 7000 years separate the events of the Rings of Power to those of Lord of the Ringssome of the characters from Peter Jackson’s film trilogy are featured prominently in the Amazon series. This is particularly the case of the Elf Galadriel, born in 1362, who will be played by Morfydd Clark after being played by Cate Blanchett on the big screen.
Elf Elrond, also born in the First Age, also returns to the screen. Robert Aramayo, known for playing the role of young Ned Stark in Game Of Thronessucceeds Hugo Weaving in this role.
Will Gandalf be in The Rings of Power?
For the time being, it is unknown whether or not the powerful magician Gandalf will appear in Rings of Power. Nevertheless, let us recall that Gandalf, of his first name Olórin, was created by Ilúvatar even before the creation of the world. He was therefore somewhere during the Second Age of Middle-earth, which could allow him to make an appearance in the Amazon series. Note however that Gandalf, just like Saruman, has the appearance of an old man only during the Third Age, under the impulse of the Valar. If he were to appear in Rings of Powerhe would therefore probably be played by an actor younger than his emblematic interpreter, Ian McKellen.
Speaking of Ian McKellen, he doesn’t seem ready to give up his place. In an interview with Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, the 83-year-old actor said he was ready to put on the wizard’s costume again in the Amazon series : “Gandalf is over 7000 years old so I’m not too old yet“, he joked.
Will Sauron be in The Rings of Power?
For now, producers of Rings of Power have not confirmed Sauron’s presence in the series. Nevertheless, it’s a safe bet that the main antagonist of the Tolkien universe will indeed be present on the screen. Indeed, the show is centered on the Second Age of Middle-earth, at the time of the creation of the twenty rings of power. However, Sauron played a major role in the creation of these. It is in particular he who assisted the Dwarves and the Men in the creation of their rings, and he again who, around 1600 DA, forged the unique ring in the depths of Orodruin.
