Fantasy fans are chomping at the bit. From September 2, they will be able to see the event series announced for very long months: The Rings of Power. Worn by JD Payne and Patrick McKay, the series inspired by the work of JRR Tolkien will take place during the second age of Middle-earth (Before the King, Before the Fellowship, Before the Ring), at the time of the creation of the Rings of Power by the Elf Ñoldo Celebrimbor. “This epic drama will propel its viewers into a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and ruin, unexpected heroes were tested, hope hung by a thread, and the greatest villains never to be born from Tolkien’s pen threatened to plunge the world into darkness”announces the official synopsis of the series.
“It’s a title that we think could go on the spine of a book alongside the other JRR Tolkien classics. The Rings of Power brings together all the major stories of the Second Age of Middle-earth : the forge of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic of Númenor and the last Alliance of Elves and Men”, described showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay in a statement. And to be able to follow the adventures of the Rings of Power, you will need to be a subscriber to Amazon Prime. It is indeed this platform that produced this event series which will contain eight episodes. Its production was not entrusted to Peter Jackson, who nevertheless shot six films on the Lord of the Rings saga. In an episode of the Awards Chatter podcast, he explained that the production had first contacted him for The Rings of Power before not giving him any news!
“We have the greatest respect for Peter Jackson and for the Lord of the Rings films”
“They asked me if I wanted to be involved. I said I couldn’t answer that question without reading the script.said the New Zealand filmmaker. They answered me: ‘As soon as we have the first scripts, we will send them to you’. And the scripts never arrived. That’s the last thing I heard, but it’s okay. I’m not complaining at all.” In the process, Amazon defended itself. “In trying to acquire the rights for our series, we were forced to distinguish and separate it from the films. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings films, and we are very happy that ‘he can’t wait to discover The Rings of Power’, the company said.
