The RN and the New Popular Front are “two mortal dangers for society”, believes Bayrou

The president of the MoDem François Bayrou warned Thursday in Lille against the “two mortal dangers for society” which, according to him, the National Rally and the New Popular Front represent during the legislative elections.

“There are three real proposals, two of which are in my eyes, in our eyes, mortal dangers for society in the state in which it finds itself and the historical moment that we are experiencing, from which it would not recover for years and years,” declared François Bayrou at a press conference, who came to support majority northern candidates.

The refusal of “extremes” expressed by certain political figures “presages rallies”

He estimated that voters would find themselves faced with “three political proposals” during this election, two of which are synonymous with “complete destabilization of the country and Europe”. “Extremism on both sides poses an equally grave danger,” he insisted. The stakes of these elections go beyond the stakes “of all the elections we have known since the war”, he insisted, referring to relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine, defense, immigration and even the economy and interest rates.

Affirming that the left wanted to “remove all the tools which make it possible to regulate immigration”, he judged that the first victims would be “the poor and among them legal immigrants”. Asked about Emmanuel Macron’s decision to dissolve the National Assembly, he conceded that “this timing was not (his)”, but stressed that the president had “considered it inevitable that we were heading towards a parliamentary incident “.

For the president of MoDem, the refusal of “extremes” expressed by certain political figures “presages rallies”. He cited Xavier Bertrand, Manuel Valls, Jérôme Guedj and François Rebsamen among the personalities who “made a choice to resist these abuses”. On the other hand, “I think that (Raphaël) Glucksmann is a huge disappointment for the majority of those who voted for him,” he replied, when asked about the possibility of a rapprochement with the leader of Place Publique .
