The RN at the head of a study group on anti-Semitism? Unthinkable for Nupes and Macronie

Could the Rassemblement national find itself in charge of the study group on anti-Semitism in the National Assembly? In any case, this is what a provisional list released by the institution on Wednesday suggests. This list provides for the distribution of study group chairs to each of the political parties making up the Assembly. Each political formation can therefore submit its candidacies according to its number of deputies in the hemicycle. In this context, the RN, the second party with 89 elected members, is trying to consolidate its position and has officially made a request to be in charge of work on anti-Semitism.

An opportunity for Sébastien Chenu, vice-president of the RN, to strengthen the party’s normalization strategy. The candidacy was immediately viewed with a dim view by the other political parties, which they describe as “a red line” not to be crossed in view of the history of the far-right party.

Strong reactions from the deputies of the Nupes

Many deputies fell from their chairs when they received this new list by email and immediately, strong indignation emerged from the ranks of the opposition. At Nupes, we do not fail to recall the history of the party, “incompatible” with this study of anti-Semitism. In the columns of the newspaper Releasea collective of elected environmentalists wrote a forum, denouncing a “party founded by former Nazis, former SS, notorious anti-Semites (…) steeped in racism and anti-Semitism”.

For his part, the president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) reacted violently on Twitter: “Never the CRIF and the Jewish institutions will participate in this masquerade. It would be unacceptable ineptitude and manipulation”, he said. -he writes. Finally, everyone recalled the anti-Semitic remarks of the founder and former president of the party Jean-Marie le Pen.

Still a provisional decision

In order to restore order in the ranks, the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, declared that “no creation, no attribution is recorded before the decision of the Bureau of the Assembly”. This result, distributed to the deputies, is the result of a non-final decision, since only the Bureau of the Assembly will have the final decision. We will therefore have to wait for the result on November 15 with the meeting of this office to allocate the presidencies.
