At the microphone of Europe 1, former lawyer Serge Klarsfeld approved the presence of the RN at the march against anti-Semitism organized on Sunday. Comments which were rather poorly received by the Élysée, while Emmanuel Macron has still not announced whether he was going to participate in the march.

Does the National Rally have its place in the march against anti-Semitism organized on Sunday? Yes, for former lawyer Serge Klarsfeld. “A far-right party is a party whose DNA is anti-Semitism, and this is not the case with the National Rally. The RN has become a party you can patronize,” declared the president of the Sons and Daughters of the Deported Jews of France this Friday morning at the microphone of Dimitri Pavlenko on Europe 1. Remarks which were received coldly at the Élysée.

“We have fallen very low”

An advisor says he is “outraged” by these comments from Serge Klarsfeld. “He’s playing into the hands of Marine Le Pen. We’ve fallen very low. It’s really disappointing on the part of the person who allowed the arrest of Klaus Barbie,” he protests. These declarations come at the worst time for the head of state, while the executives of the presidential camp still do not want to appear alongside the National Rally on Sunday during the march against anti-Semitism in Paris.

Enough to increase the pressure on the president, who has still not indicated whether he will be in the procession. His entourage simply makes it known that there will be an expression from the president by Sunday, without giving further details. And the question of his participation in this transpartisan event launched by the presidents of the two houses of Parliament is a dilemma for Emmanuel Macron. If he confirms the choice for which he seemed to be leaning in recent days of not going in person to this march, he would then be the only leading political figure to be absent with Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

A walk under great security

The authorities will monitor this gathering very closely. According to information, several tens of thousands of participants are expected to march alongside numerous political figures, such as Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, or the former Presidents of the Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande. Security cordons will be put in place by the police around the personalities and the head of the procession.

At the same time, a request for a pro-Palestinian rally at the call of the NPA was submitted to the prefecture for this Sunday in Paris. But according to information from Europe 1, this demonstration should be banned by the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez.
