The RN is gaining credibility among the French, according to a survey


The National Rally, which now has a large group of deputies, has gained credibility in 2022 in the eyes of the French and the image of its leader Marine Le Pen also continues to improve, according to a Kantar Public poll published tuesday. In this annual survey carried out for Le Monde and France Info, support for the ideas put forward by the RN is growing for the 6th consecutive year, 31% of French people now support the ideas of the RN (+2), without however reaching the record of 2017 (33%).

The proportion of French people who say they disagree (57%) is at its lowest level since 1984. The proportion of French people who consider that this party represents a danger to democracy in France has fallen to 46% (minus 2 points) as c It has been the case for five years and has reached one of its lowest levels for 40 years.

A party capable of governing for 40% of respondents

More than four in ten French people (42%) believe that the party has moderated in recent years, and the proportion rises to 67% among LR sympathizers and 70% among those of the RN. 40% of those questioned believe that the RN is a party capable of participating in a government, which more than half of LR supporters are convinced of (51%, or 19 points more than last year).

With its 89 deputies in the National Assembly, the RN is considered by 40% of those polled as “the main opposition to Emmanuel Macron”, against 33% for Nupes.

Marine Le Pen’s image is also improving and a majority of French people (52%, up 10 points in one year) now consider that the MP for Pas-de-Calais “understands the problems of the French”, which , underline the authors of the study, “is a real strength today as it contrasts with the usual image of political representatives disconnected from reality”. A majority of respondents (57%) also believe that they are “capable of making decisions” (+5 points in one year).

The image of Jordan Bardella still to be built

The former presidential candidate nevertheless continues to worry 54% of French people who believe that “she represents a danger to democracy” and more than a third (36%) perceive her first as “the representative of a nationalist and xenophobic extreme right”.

As for Jordan Bardella, freshly elected president of the RN, “his image remains to be built”, according to the authors of the study, because nearly half of the respondents do not speak when they are questioned about his qualities. Kantar Public Epoka survey conducted face-to-face from November 29 to December 6 with a sample of 1,014 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, according to the quota method.
