LONDON (Reuters) – The Rolling Stones announced the release of a new album, their first in 18 years of original material, at a ceremony at the Hackney Empire, a music venue in east London .
“We are here to present our new single, which is called ‘Angry’, and its music video, and ‘Angry’ is the first single from our new album, which is called ‘Hackney Diamonds’, that’s why we’re in Hackney, which will be released on October 20,” Mick Jagger, the British rock band’s now octogenarian lead singer, told Jimmy Fallon via video link with the American TV presenter.
Mick Jagger and guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, all dressed in black, arrived at the Hackney Empire by taxi, which Mick Jagger paid for in cash.
Rolling Stones fans have been waiting for this announcement since a mysterious advertisement last month appeared in a small local London newspaper for a glass repair company called “Hackney Diamonds”, a house founded in 1962, the year of formation of the group.
This album, whose title evokes broken glass after a burglary, is the first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021.
