The Rookie Season 6: This is what continues in the new episodes of the ABC series

The police series “The Rookie” has already been renewed for a sixth season by US broadcaster ABC. As one of the five most successful series currently running on the channel, “The Rookie” has been given the green light for further episodes and will therefore break the 100-episode mark next season.

The drama, starring Nathan Fillion (Castle) as John Nolan, first aired on ABC in October 2018. Nolan is a newly divorced 45-year-old who moves to Los Angeles to become the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). At first ridiculed by colleagues and superiors, over the course of the 5th season he manages to become a first-class police officer through his persistence and perseverance.

Unfortunately, the first trailer for season 6 of “The Rookie” mainly shows scenes from the previous season. But what is striking is that many scenes with Celina Juarez were chosen. Her actress Lisseth Chavez has been promoted to the main cast for Season 6, so we can expect a lot more moments with the trainee with a penchant for the supernatural. Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino) can also be seen briefly in a scene, a good omen for his survival in the new episodes.

The “real” trailer for the new episodes shows us some hot scenes between Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford. But John Nolan and Nune Bailey’s wedding also becomes a topic… and the wedding curse that is said to strike on the last shift before a police officer’s wedding.

The Rookie Season 6: Start

The 6th season of the police series “The Rookie” starts on February 20, 2024 on US broadcaster ABC. Due to the scriptwriters’ and actors’ strikes that have now ended, the new episodes start comparatively late; normally the episodes would have started in autumn 2023.

Actors like Eric Winter, who plays police officer and later Sergeant Tim Bradford in “The Rookie,” even published a post about the strike on his Instagram page at the end of July.

Lead actor Nathan Fillion has also been cast as Green Lantern in James Gunn’s new DC film “Superman: Legacy”. Officially, however, this is not a reason for the new “Rookie” episodes to be postponed any further.

When does season 6 of “The Rookie” start in Germany?

It is now clear that “The Rookie” season 6 will be shown on Sky and Wow alongside the US broadcast. This means that due to the time difference, the start date is February 21, 2024. Initially, you can expect the new episodes only in the original sound, on March 6th, 2024 Sky and Wow will offer German subtitles and the German dubbing will follow on May 1st, 2025.

The Rookie Season 6: Plot

Season 5 of “The Rookie” ended with a cliffhanger. Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino) was shot during an operation and ends up in the hospital. In the 6th season of the popular police series it will certainly be revealed whether he survived this attack. Since Tru Valentino can now be seen on the new season poster, we believe that Aaron Thorsen survived.

Since Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford finally got together in Season 5, their blossoming relationship will likely be a lasting theme in Season 6. It’s already known that Jenna Dewan’s pregnancy will have no impact on her character Bailey Nune and John Nolan won’t is suddenly surprised with another child (via TVLine). Things remain exciting for Bailey and John, as their wedding takes place in the 100th episode of the series.

We can also expect some scenes from our detective dream team Harper and Lopez, who also have to overcome some hurdles. Because her dangerous job is sometimes difficult to reconcile with being a mother.

The first two seasons had 20 episodes each, followed by just 14 episodes in Season 3. Seasons 4 and 5 were increased to 22 episodes each. But unfortunately the rumors have come true and Season 6 of “The Rookie” will actually only consist of 10 episodes to make up for the time lost due to the writers and actors’ strikes.

The Rookie Season 6: Cast and Production

In season 6 we will see Nathan Fillion (“Castle”) again in the main role of police candidate John Nolan. Richard T. Jones (“Santa Clarita Diet”) will also return as Wade Gray, Melissa O’Neil (“Dark Matter”) as Lucy Chen and Eric Winter (“Witches of East End”) as Tim Bradford. Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore and Jenna Dewan are also there again.

Since Tru Valentino’s character Aaron Thorsen is seriously injured at the end of season 5, it has so far been left open as to whether he will return in the new season. However, Valentino was at The Rookie’s 100th episode celebration and is also seen in the promotional footage for Season 6, so we assume Aaron survives. Lisseth Chavez has been promoted from guest actress to main cast member (via Deadline), so we can look forward to more scenes with rookie Celina Juarez.

Actress Danielle Campbell (“The Originals”) has just been confirmed. According to US magazine TVLine, she will take on the role of Blair, a psychiatrist who looks after the LAPD. She will appear in the first episode of the season.

In addition, “The Rookie: Feds” actress Niecy Nash revealed that she will probably not have a guest appearance in the 6th season of “The Rookie”. After the spin-off was canceled, fans speculated that her character would at least appear in the main series, but Nash gives a clear answer in an interview with TVLine:

[The Rookie: Feds] was one of my favorite jobs because it was one of my favorite casts I’ve ever worked with. But no, I don’t think there are any plans for that that I know of. I live in this moment. That’s where I’m at now.

Alexi Hawley will return as showrunner. With the extension for a further sixth season, “The Rookie” will now also break the impressive barrier of 100 episodes right from the start.
