Update from November 9th, 2023: The actors’ strike has officially ended. How many episodes actually appear in season 6 of “The Rookie” depends heavily on how quickly filming can begin. It is still possible to shorten the season.
Original message: “The Rookie” is considered one of the five most successful series on US broadcaster ABC and has already been renewed for a 6th season. This would mean that the popular police series would also break the 100-episode mark. However, viewers will probably have to prepare for a shortened season of the crime series with only 10 episodes.
The reason for this is the writers’ and actors’ strikes, which led to a large number of productions having to be postponed or even canceled in Hollywood this year. Even though the lengthy writers’ strike ended in September 2023, an agreement for the striking actors is not expected until December.
Fans of the series have already experienced such circumstances during the third season of “The Rookie,” when the series was shortened to just 14 episodes due to the pandemic. So Nathan Fillion, in his role as police officer John Nolan, will probably be able to solve somewhat less exciting criminal cases in season 6 than before.
In addition to “The Rookie”, long-running ABC series such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Good Doctor” will probably be reduced in half and only appear with 10 episodes. Other hit series from the US broadcaster such as “Abbott Elementary” and “The Conners” will most likely only get by with 13 new episodes per season (via TVLine).
