The RTX 4090 heats up so much it could melt your PC, already two victims

It seems that the RTX 4090 is the victim of some overheating problems. On Reddit, user reggie_gakil posted a photo of his 16 pin adapter completely burnt out by the graphics card. In the comments, another user shared a similar testimony.

The overheating problem has just claimed a new victim. In the comments to u/reggie_gakil’s post, another Reddit user says he had the exact same problem. ” You’re not the only one “he wrote. “It happened to me today too, but the burn isn’t as bad. A few hours ago I was playing Black Desert [quand] suddenly the screen went black and all the fans started spinning at 100%. I turned off the machine and after an inspection noticed that the adapter was damaged. »

This testimony is enough to raise the concern among the players. One would have thought that the case of u/reggie_gakil was isolated, but this new victim seems to indicate that there is indeed a manufacturing problem with the RTX 4090s. Especially since the latter does not seem to have mounted his setup Quickly. Hopefully this issue doesn’t spread and Nvidia fixes it soon.

Article of 24/10/2022:

We’ve been repeating it to you over and over since its release, but the RTX 4090 continues to amaze with its simply extraordinary power. Nvidia has undoubtedly pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible when it comes to graphics cards and it shows. That being said, the latter is far from perfect – difficult to accept that its graphics card is now more or less the size of its entire PC – and the first technical problems are starting to be talked about.

These are unfortunately not unusual when a new product is released, and graphics cards are not spared. We remember in particular the RTX 3090 which found themselves bricked at the launch of New World. Their successor suffers from an equally definitive, but much more dangerous problem: they can literally catch fire.

The RTX 4090 can burn your PC

It is on the subreddit devoted to Nvidia that we find the first and, hopefully, last testimony of this kind. The user u/reggie_gakil posted two photos of his 16-pin cable on the one hand and the connector of his RTX 4090 on the other hand which completely burned. The latter explains that he was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 when he realized that his connector had melted.

Difficult for the moment to explain the phenomenon. The most likely hypothesis is a manufacturing defect. It’s also possible that, due to the gigantic size of the graphics card, the cable was twisted too close to the connector (which can lead to overheating issues) in order to fit the beast into the case. However, u/reggie_gakil then shared a photo of his setup which seems to refute this theory.

It remains to be seen whether this is an isolated case or not. If this is the first testimony of its kind, it should be noted that many players have not bought the graphics card for various reasons, and those who have already cracked have not necessarily been delivered. Better to stay tuned to learn more about this case.
