Russian government websites are facing unprecedented cyberattacks, Tass news agency said on Thursday, citing the Digital Ministry. Russian authorities are working to filter web traffic from abroad. In recent weeks, Russian government entities as well as state-owned companies have been targeted by cyberattacks that have temporarily restricted their access or caused outages. This is the case of the websites of the Kremlin, the air carrier Aeroflot or even Sberbank, the largest credit bank in Russia.
“If before their power at peak times reached 500 gigabytes, now it is 1 terabytesaid the Ministry of Digital. This is two to three times more potent than the most serious such incidents previously reported.” Kaspersky, which offers a map of cyberattacks in real time, indicates that Russia is now the most attacked country in the world, a place that previously went to China. At the start of the conflict, Ukraine was in 16th position and has now fallen to 44th place.
Financially isolated from the West, Russia is also technologically. In recent days, many Western digital players have announced the suspension of their activities in Russia, in particular antivirus companies and cybersecurity specialists. The Kremlin has also cut access to certain platforms such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Regarding the latter, Russia has indicated that a local version of the app will soon be made available under the name of Rossgram.
