Lhe FSB colonel Igor Girkin, 51, doesn’t look the part: thin, pale, with short, smooth fingers. With his fine mustache and slicked back hair, he almost cultivates a British elegance. Yet he is a formidable warlord, one of the instigators of the annexation of Crimea in February 2014 and then of the Donbass war in eastern Ukraine a few months later. It is also him that the Dutch justice indicted in the case of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing connecting Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and shot down in the Ukrainian sky with 298 passengers on board, on July 17, 2014.
