The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra passed on billiards from iFixit and DXOMARK, here’s what they say

The two sites have just published very specialized tests on the S22 and S22 Ultra smartphones, focusing on repairability for iFixit and on the screen for DXOMARK. Verdict: The S22 Ultra’s screen is hard to fix, but it’s devilishly effective.

After the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra tests come teardowns and tests that are a little more “clinical” and specialized. iFixit has earned a strong reputation for device repairability, while DXOMARK tests phones on a variety of specific criteria. Their test of the S22 Ultra screen has just been released and it is very reassuring.

iFixit: the S22 is not easy to repair

Popular device teardown site iFixit gave the S22 and S22 Ultra a 3/10 repairability rating. Here is the full video:

Without going into details, the two S22s tested make changing the battery too complicated, due to the use of adhesive strips. The change of screen is also particularly impractical, as it is difficult to detach from the rest of the smartphone. The lack of manual for the repair is also singled out.

For DXOMARK, the S22 Ultra is the best screen for watching videos

Samsung produces screens for almost the entire phone industry. So when the time comes to equip its smartphones, the Seoul firm tends to make the right choices.

The test carried out by the DXOMARK confirms this. The phone receives the best video playback score ever given on the site, 91. It surpasses the S21 Ultra in brightness and offers more natural contrasts than the iPhone 13 Pro according to the benchmarks company.

The S22 Ultra is also tied with the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max on its ability to adjust the brightness to the environment, which greatly helps in reading or being able to maintain a high level of readability even in complicated conditions.

The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, is a little behind on other categories, in particular the precision of its touch screen, or its ability to go below 24 Hz, yet a real promise of the LTPO 2.0.

For these reasons, DXOMARK placed the S22 Ultra in third place in its ranking of the best smartphone screens, tied with the iPhone 13 and the Huawei P50 Pro. A good score overall, which confirms our impression during his test. We had given the score of 10/10 to its screen as it seems above the lot.
