The exclusivity negotiated by Samsung for obtaining boosted Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors could soon end. We learn that Qualcomm is about to offer these chips to other manufacturers, potentially in a slightly different form.
End of a privilege approaching? According to Digital Chat Station, often well informed, Qualcomm is about to end the exclusivity linking the boosted version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to Samsung. Reserved for the time being for the Galaxy S23, this version of the chip could thus be installed on high-end models from manufacturers other than the Korean giant, which would lose a small advantage over its competitors in the process.
In his post published on the Chinese social network Weibo, the leaker suggests that Xiaomi and Oppo could be among the first brands, other than Samsung, to be able to equip themselves with this doped Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. THE flagships of the two firms would then win an additional argument against the Galaxy S23.
An identical chip… and yet different
You have to dig a little deeper into the technical specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to identify the few differences disseminated by Qualcomm on this boosted version of the chip – also engraved in 4 nm by TSMC. The latter, nicknamed until now ” Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy “, has higher operating frequencies, with a rate of 3.36 GHz at the CPU level, instead of the 3.2 GHz of the classic version. Aoverclockingsignificant for the mobile chip, which also benefits from some exclusive advantages at the GPU level… although Qualcomm has so far refused to give details of the modifications made in this area.
As 9to5Google points out, if this improved variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 seems well on the way to arriving on smartphones other than those of Samsung, it’s a safe bet that Qualcomm will take the opportunity to make some additional changes to it in order to market under the nameSnapdragon 8+ Gen 2“. The idea would then be to resume the launch plan adopted last year, with a versionrefreshof the high-end Snapdragon rolled out in the middle of the year, hoping to give new impetus to the market. In the end, the Samsung Galaxy S23 were just 6 months ahead…
