New Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra passed into the less than merciful hands of Zack Nelson, videographer for the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything. Accustomed to tearing apart the best devices on the market, the person concerned had more trouble than expected to cause harm to Samsung’s new high-end smartphone.

Do titanium chassis and new Corning Gorilla Glass Armor treatment work together to improve the durability of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra that we recently tested? Without a doubt, the answer is yes. The device was passed a few days ago on the desk and under the (torture) instruments of YouTuber Zack Nelson (JerryRigEverything) and, interestingly, it turns out to be much tougher than one might have thought.

An effective anti-scratch treatment

First, the videographer tested the scratch resistance offered by the Gorilla Glass Armor solution. Particularly effective in limiting the appearance of reflections on the screen, the latter manages to prevent scratches up to level 7 of the hardness scale, with deeper grooves at level 8. On certain competing models, deep scratches start appearing at level 5 or 6.

As pointed out SamMobile, the JerryRigEverything video also shows that despite the scratches deliberately inflicted for the purposes of the test, the fingerprint reader installed under the screen of the S24 Ultra continues to function normally. This anti-reflective and anti-scratch treatment is one of the best surprises of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. In these two areas, the device does better than most competitive models… iPhone 15 Pro included (and which you can find in our test here).

Titanium is a game changer? Not quite done, but…

The arrival of a titanium chassis on the S24 Ultra also improves its resistance, but not everywhere and not in all cases. Zack Nelson’s test demonstrates, for example, that the sides of the device remain approximately as vulnerable to scratches and scratches as those of the Galaxy S23 Ultra (equipped with an aluminum chassis). On this level, no revolution in sight.

On the other hand, the choice of titanium makes all the difference when we are interested in the torsions and the structural solidity of the smartphone. On this level, we see that like the titanium frame of the iPhone 15 Pro, the frame of the S24 Ultra does not give way despite the strong pressure exerted by the YouTuber. An asset which will allow increased resistance of the structure during falls and shocks… without changing the situation significantly in the face of the cosmetic damage that may appear in this context.
