Eight days after the disappearance of Émile in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains announced the opening, Monday, July 17, of a preliminary investigation.
The family of Émile, 2 and a half years old, has still had no news of the little boy since his disappearance in Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), Saturday July 8. On vacation with his grandparents, Émile had escaped the vigilance of these ; two witnesses are the last to have seen him, walking down an alley in the village alone. Search operations had been launched, without success. Closed this Thursday, July 13, they had notably involved the father of the little boy, whose behavior had intrigued certain witnesses. Investigators should also analyze the 1,200 calls received on the reserved telephone line, and above all sort the information to avoid false leads. According Nice morning, a preliminary investigation will be opened by the public prosecutor of Digne-les-Bains, Rémy Avon, this Monday, July 17.
In the aftermath of the worrying disappearance of Émile, the regime of flagrance was implemented. According to the Code of Criminal Procedure, this scheme can be initiated “when the disappearance of a minor or a protected adult has just intervened or been observed.” He “will be automatically replaced by that of the preliminary investigation”said Rémy Avon to our colleagues.
