ThePierceJ, the Sentinels’ coach on League of Legends: Wild Rift, was banned for a year and a half for his behavior deemed offensive.

During the Icons Global Championship 2022the American coach of the LoL team Wild Rift made animal sounds. The organizers and developers have perceived these shouts as offensive and sanctioned ThePierceJ. Shortly afterwards, the latter announced his resignation from his position as coach of the North American team.

“I am resigning as Sentinels Head Coach for Wild Rift effective immediately. This is the result of one of my activities during the 2022 Icons World Championship. During the pre-game outing, I made several chants and animal noises as part of our pre-game ritual. While not directed at Liberty players and staff, I did offend them. I apologize to Liberty, Riot Games, the Sentinels and all of my players. I learned from this experience and will be more conscientious in my actions in the future. I have been banned from the Riot Esports ecosystem for the next 18 months, but I will continue to play my favorite game!”

The coach had been with Sentinels since the team’s inception, almost a year ago. The team also had obtained excellent results in the North American leaguess. During the Icons Global Championship 2022, the structure ranked 17th out of 20th places far behind the champions, Nova Esports.
