A bold design statement from the Koreans: Hyundai is celebrating its world premiere with the Ioniq 6, the second representative of the electric sub-brand. What they call the “Electrified Streamliner” is a very streamlined sedan – with a drag coefficient of just 0.21.
Depending on the viewing angle, one feels reminded of some cars from other brands. In the side view there is a little Mercedes CLS, at the rear you can see Porsche, but not as clearly as it was in the EV Concept Prophecy study – because of the double spoiler. A piece of Porsche is also in the front. The pixel design of the lights clearly comes from the Ioniq5. With its square elements, it forms a kind of optical counterweight to the round shapes. In addition to the body shape, the aerodynamics are supported by active air flaps and optional cameras that replace classic exterior mirrors. The underbody is completely clad. The advantage of the whole thing: Even if Hyundai simply uses the drives or batteries from the Ioniq5, the achievable range will be noticeably higher. A cocoon-like feel-good atmosphere should prevail in the interior. Relax comfort seats should also contribute to this, as should the ambient lighting with 64 colors and six two-tone themes. The Speed Sync lighting mode adds a further play of color by adjusting the brightness of the interior lights depending on the vehicle’s speed. A continuous, relatively high center console separates the driver and passenger seats, with a shelf underneath. Similar to the Ioniq 5, the speedometer and central touchscreen are combined into a double display, both measuring 12 inches. The materials are largely sustainable. Among other things, recycled pigment paint from old tires was used for the panels and bamboo charcoal pigment paint for the body.
