The series A Prophet filming, Mamadou Sidibé in the main role

The film A prophet by Jacques Audiard, who revealed Tahar Rahim (The snake, Found Guilty) will have the right to a series adaptation for OCS. Its shooting began last week, with the young Mamadou Sidibé in the title role.

“A series of today and here”

Consisting of eight episodes, A Prophet, the series just went into production this July 3, and is filming between Marseille, where most of the story will take place, and the Italian region of Puglia. This tells the story of Malik, a young convict who will toughen up in prison, develop his network, and gradually become a real “prophet” in the criminal world.

The series is led by the film’s original team: screenwriters Abdel Raouf Dafri (braquo) and Nicolas Peufaillit (Ghosts), as well as producer Marco Cherqui (Kabul Kitchen). She will also be able to count on the expertise of director Enrico Maria Artale, who is already directing the series Django And Romulus.

Above all, the main role of Malik El Djebenna, alias the “Prophet” of the story, is played by the young Mamadou Sidibé, whose first role on screen. He is accompanied in the casting by Sami Bouajila (Native), Matthew Luci (Oussekine), Ouassini Embarek (Athena), Nailia Harzoune (Good Conduct), and Moussa Maaskri (Stillwater).

More than a simple remake of Jacques Audiard’s film, A Prophet, the series is an updated rereading of it taking into account the challenges of the 2020s, as defended by Marco Cherqui: “The series is intended to be a contemporary story, as the film was in its time. We redistribute the cards with a Malik that we have chosen of African origin”he explains.

He keeps on : “If our characters are interchanged and transformed at the same time as the face of our society evolves, our themes remain the same. A Prophet is a series from today and from here”.

When it was released in 2009, A prophet met with both public and critical success, marked by the revelation Tahar Rahim. Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, he had won nine Césars and had been nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film.
