The sharp halt to the fall in unemployment set to worsen

DECRYPTION – With a six-month lag, the labor market is now affected by the slowdown in activity. And the future looks difficult.

This was to be expected… After two years of a sharp and constant decline in the number of job seekers monitored by Pôle Emploi, the euphoria has indeed fallen on the labor market. As indicated by the data published by the Ministry of Labor, the decline observed since the end of the first confinement came to a halt in the third quarter. Between July and September, the number of registrants without any activity in category A in the whole of France (excluding Mayotte) remained stable (- 1,700, i.e. the thickness of the line), at 3.16 million people. Ditto including job seekers in reduced activity (categories B and C), to 5.44 million registered.

This decline is not a surprise. After three consecutive quarters of sharp decline (between 170,000 and 190,000 registered in category A less each time), the reflux had fallen in the second quarter, with a small – 26,900 registered unemployed over three months. It stems directly from the deterioration of the economic situation…
