Do you feel like you’re being watched at the gym too and not at all comfortable doing your exercises like on a salver? Then the TikTok trend “Shy Girl Workout” might be just the thing for you.

The thought of working out in a crowded gym in front of everyone is an absolute nightmare for you? But you need the equipment and the infrastructure in the fitness studio, so that training in your living room at home or a round of jogging are out of the question for you?

Don’t panic, you’re not alone with this discomfort at public training. “I’m sure that super athlete over there is thinking how stupid I look on the leg press” – many of us are afraid that others will judge them and think badly of them. Introverts, in particular, tend to be reluctant to be the center of attention. And if you’re just starting out with your fitness routine, you might just lack the self-confidence for an intensive workout during rush hour.

Shy Girl Workouts: Fitness Training for Introverts

Luckily, there’s a trend making the rounds on TikTok that could be the solution to that gym angst: so-called “shy girl workouts.” Under the hashtag #shygirlworkout, users on the social media platform share training hacks on how to design their workout in such a way that they are exposed to the eyes and interaction with other people on the fitness area as little as possible. The tricks include:

  • find yourself one quiet corner to exercise — maybe where the mats and supplies are stored — and avoid the studio’s most popular spots. This way you draw less attention to yourself.
  • design your Workout short and intense. The less time you spend in the gym, the faster you can be yourself again.
  • Arrange your exercises in such a way that you can little space and equipment need for that. So you are less present in the room.
  • Train with headphones. This is a way of signaling that you don’t particularly like being spoken to and hopefully keeping to yourself.

Don’t stress! Give yourself time to build your confidence in the gym

Don’t worry: it will get easier. The more often and more regularly you train, the more comfortable you will definitely feel in the gym at some point. You will become more confident in your exercises and you will gradually be less nervous between the supposedly “better” athletes around you. Don’t overwhelm yourself at the beginning, but start slowly – self-confidence will come by itself at some point, I promise!
