You should be able to play The Sims 5 completely free of charge. EA has announced the upcoming title as a free-to-play game, but you will still have to pay for this content later.
- The Sims 5 appears to be a free-to-play title.
- EA has announced that you don’t need a subscription or buy the main game.
- There should still be paid expansions like in The Sims 4.
There is still no release date for The Sims 5 or Project Rene, but at least EA has announced another important detail, because the prices for modern games for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are often anything but low.
But this apparently doesn’t apply to The Sims 5, because as the company has announced, the game will be released as a free-to-play title. As EA writes in a blog post, neither subscriptions nor a paid main game are planned.
However, the concept is not unknown. After The Sims 4 was released as a paid title, you can now download it completely for free. Only the extensions that you can purchase if necessary are subject to a charge.
This is roughly how it should work in The Sims 5, even if, according to EA, there will be additional updates that will be available to all players. However, the company would like to change the approach here.
You will find out exactly how EA implements this and whether The Sims 5 will also be released for smartphones when it is released. As soon as EA announces a release date, you will find it as usual in our game release list.
