The Sims 5 will not be an MMO, confirms Maxis – The Sims 5

The Sims 4 is still just as popular, it even gained 10 million players when it went free-to-play at the end of 2022, and will be supported for many more months. On this subject, Maxis, in charge of development, unveiled some new features, including the famous baby update, while evoking Project Rene, which will most likely result in The Sims 5.

When it was formalized at the end of last year, the developers had mentioned the presence of a multiplayer dimension, which had not failed to challenge the community, which had imagined being able to evolve in an online game. However, Grant Rodiek, director of the game, wanted to clarify the situation, to avoid having false hopes.

One thing to keep in mind is that Project René is not an MMO. It’s not a public, shared space where everything you do is always with other people.

Thereby, we will not evolve in a world where your character is constantly in the presence of other players, which could have been a very interesting experience. However, multiplayer will be present, since Maxis noticed that the community wanted such a thing. This online content would be more focused on sharing, but Grant Rodiek specifies that it will be possible to create with his friends, without going into details.

For those who may be worried about multiplayer direction, don’t panic. The Sims 5 will feature single-player content and the differentiation will be done according to your desires, with also a cooperative support. We’ll find out more about all of this as the months go on, as Project René is still in the early stages of development.
