In March 2020, in the midst of a coronavirus crisis in France, Christophe said goodbye to the people of France after weeks of fighting against a lung problem. The singer, admitted to intensive care for respiratory failure in connection with his emphysema on March 26, 2020, died on April 16, at the age of 74. “Christophe is gone. Despite the unfailing dedication of the healthcare teams, his forces abandoned him ”, said his daughter Lucie and his wife Véronique Bevilacqua (from whom he had long been separated) in a press release sent to AFP. A family member could not, however, be at his bedside or at his funeral: it was his son Romain, born from his history with the singer Michèle Torr, and whom he never recognized. Christophe also leaves behind his last companion, Audrey. For years, Christophe had rebuilt his life with this make-up artist, 33 years his junior. Today, it is his widow Véronique Bevilacqua who takes up the torch of the singer's heritage. In a rare interview with RTL, the latter agreed to indulge modestly on his death.
"I never wanted to hide the Covid"
The artist having died in the middle of a coronavirus crisis, many fans have suspected Véronique Bevilacqua of wanting to hide the real cause of his death: the Covid-19. This is categorically refuted by the main interested party, who explained herself to our colleagues on this subject. “I never wanted to hide the Covid, I just didn't know it ”, she then confided. “When he arrived at the hospital, it was for his emphysema crisis which was quite significant. That’s what was a little painful, because his lungs were badly attacked. ” During this interview Véronique Bevilacqua, opened the doors of the singer's apartment, located in a building on boulevard Montparnasse (in the 14th arrondissement of Paris) to journalists from RTL. She took the opportunity to make a big announcement to admirers: “We were both collectors, of different things even if all the American objects connected us both ”, she said before adding: “You can't find that on a flea market. I have my personal collection of jukeboxes, stations, I am armored at home so unfortunately I cannot keep anything. My daughter is the same. So we're going to make an auction. ”
