the sites of the duck farmer denounced have been closed

An L214 investigation shed light on the atrocious conditions in which ducks raised for foie gras lived. After that, all of the breeder's sites were closed.

Last week, the L214 association, which fights for animal welfare, unveiled a frightening investigation into the living conditions of ducks in a breeding farm in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The facilities, deemed unhealthy and dangerous for the health of animals by the association, are being investigated by the authorities. Immediately, they announced the closure of the building. L214 then denounced the fact that "the ducks were simply transferred to another building on the farm."

"Is it acceptable to leave these birds in the hands of those responsible for this disastrous situation and to let them continue their activity?", asked the association in its press release. On Friday, state services announced that they had found "other non-conformities in terms of health and animal protection", and so they have "decided to give notice to the operator and to suspend all activity" on the site. In the evening, the Landes prefecture announced that two other sites of the same operator would be under penalty of administrative closure. The press release quoted by AFP indicates that controls "revealed the existence of an undeclared site and a site declared to be inactive but whose state of abandonment poses health risks for the environment". Julien Denormandie, Minister of Agriculture, announced the opening of legal proceedings.

By revealing the images of his investigation, L214 qualified this breeding as "sanitary bomb". In addition to the unsanitary installation, the association had filmed animal corpses there. "decomposed", a "flow of excrement", and the proliferation of rats and maggots. After the closure of all the sites of this breeder, "the competent veterinary services have organized the care of the ducks remaining on the farm".
