The slope was closed – artificial snow avalanche on the slope triggered a search operation

Avalanche alarm on Tuesday afternoon in the Hoch-Imst ski area in the Tyrolean Oberland! A glide snow avalanche consisting of artificial snow had come off a currently closed (!) slope. Since winter sports enthusiasts had repeatedly been sighted there despite the ban, a large search operation was launched.

At around 2 p.m. in the Hoch-Imst ski area, an approximately 30-metre-wide and 150-metre-long sliding snow avalanche broke on the smooth, grassy ground on the currently closed black slope. As has now become known, it was artificial snow. “Since there was heavy fog in the area of the foothills of the avalanche at that time and the upper section of the Alpjoch-Bahn ski area was closed, the avalanche was only reported at around 3:15 p.m. by an employee of the Imster Bergbahnen noticed and reported,” the police said. Therefore, a large search operation was finally started. The search was canceled in the evening. The avalanche cone was searched several times by mountain rescuers, search dogs and alpine police officers. At around 6.30 p.m. the operation was finally called off without result. Apparently there shouldn’t have been any victims.
