Google is working on new smartphones for the end of 2024, but while their launch is not expected for many months, we already know what the little Pixel 9 will look like.
Barely a day after revealing the design of the Pixel 9 Pro, Google’s next high-end smartphone which will arrive at the end of 2024, the famous leaker OnLeaks has now revealed what its little brother will look like: the Pixel 9. The latter will directly succeed the previous Pixel 8, the design of which was unveiled last March.
The smartphone unsurprisingly adopts the new design of the Pixel 9 Pro, but in a much more compact format. Google has chosen to take inspiration from the design of the Pixel Fold for the back of its smartphone. The photo module no longer touches the edges of the smartphone, but instead takes the shape of a large horizontal pill.
The Pixel 9 will be better than the Pixel 8 in photos
In terms of dimensions, OnLeaks announces that the Pixel 9 measures 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm. It is therefore a little larger than the current Pixel 8, which measures 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm. We therefore expect a slightly larger screen, probably 6.2 or 6.3 inches, but OnLeaks announces a 6.1 inch panel (probably due to different calculations).
Unlike the Pixel 8 and previous generations, the Pixel 9 will take advantage of this small increase in size to accommodate a new camera on the back, which will thus bring the number of photo sensors to 3. We don’t yet know what sensors Google plans to use, but according to the renderings, we will be entitled to a periscopic sensor, like the Pro model. If we can hope to be entitled to better cameras, Google is known for taking relatively few risks in this area. The only change might be the periscope camera. However, we will still find another new feature: the same “thermometer” temperature sensor as the Pixel 8 Pro.
As far as the processor is concerned, unsurprisingly we should expect a brand new Tensor G4 chip, more powerful and more energy efficient. The smartphone would also be entitled to a new AI called Pixie, but we will have to wait for more information to be sure. In 2022, a Google calendar was leaked, and we then learned that 3 Pixel 9s could be launched at the same time in 2024. For the moment, nothing tells us that the plans have not changed, but it It would not be impossible to see another smartphone arrive soon.
