Honor is preparing to unveil its next high-end smartphone, the Magic 6, but before that, the Chinese manufacturer has just confirmed one of the device’s flagship features: support for satellite communications.
After rumors of the feature’s arrival a few weeks ago, Honor CEO Zhao Ming has now confirmed support for satellite communications during a chat with the media on the sidelines of the recent Honor 100 press conference.
Highlighting the commitment to providing a top-notch user experience, Zhao emphasized the ongoing efforts to perfect the Honor Magic 6 series. The aim is to ensure that users do not encounter problems immediately after having unpacked their smartphone. This also happens through adding some pretty special features, such as satellite communication.

The Honor Magic 6 will follow in the footsteps of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro
The Honor Magic 6 series will be powered by MagicOS 8, the latest iteration of Honor’s operating system. Based on Android 14, MagicOS 8 is expected to rely on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and an expanded language model to improve the artificial intelligence functions of the smartphone.
However, one of the most interesting revelations is the integration of satellite communication technology into the Honor Magic 6 series. Zhao also revealed that Honor had been working diligently on satellite communications capabilities for a long time, and that the feature was finally ready to deploy.
Unfortunately, Zhao did not specify the extent of satellite communication support in the Magic 6 series, leaving room for speculation as to whether it will include texting, calling capabilities, or both.
Currently, Huawei is the only smartphone manufacturer in the industry to offer satellite texting and calling capabilities in its devices. The Huawei Mate 60 Pro, for example, marked a milestone in allowing users to make calls without relying on a traditional mobile network. As the Magic 6 should arrive in Europe soon, it could well be the first smartphone to offer such a service. As a reminder, Apple’s iPhone 14s were already capable of making satellite calls, but they were limited to emergency communications, and therefore could not make traditional calls.
