Dn his fortified farm in Mortefontaine, Christian Ferté has deployed the map of the battlefield. To the west, the forest of Compiègne; to the south, that of Villers-Cotterêts. Between the two, a crossing point through which the allies led a decisive counter-offensive against Germany in July 1918.
The Mangin tower, erected above the beech massifs to watch over the enemy forces at the time, today allows you to see the advance of the new invaders. “If we do nothing, our magnificent forest of Retz-en-Valois will be surrounded by wind turbines”, predicts this retired Enarque peasant, who ended his career as director of communication for the Ministry of Agriculture.
