Yuri Ganus clearly criticized sports officials in Russia and has now been dismissed as head of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada). That was decided by the Rusada general assembly after the supervisory board voted for the removal of the 56-year-old. The official reason given was financial irregularities. Ganus had denied the allegations.

"All in all, things are lazy – and sports officials have to be replaced in many places here," he said in an interview with the German press agency a few months ago. In view of his clear criticism of the system, observers had long wondered how long Ganus could stay at the head of the Rusada. His successor is to be determined within the next six months. Mikhail Buchanov, a lawyer from Rusada, will become interim chief.
