The sports day: Ex-Boss "nothing more surprises at Fifa"

Joseph Blatter has sharply criticized the discontinuation of a preliminary investigation against FIFA President Gianni Infantino by the ethics officers of the World Football Association. "Nothing surprises me anymore," said former Fifa boss Blatter on Thursday when asked. "The controlling bodies of Fifa are no longer independent under Gianni Infantino."

Fifa announced yesterday that Infantino will not be sanctioned by the in-house ethics committee despite serious allegations and ongoing criminal proceedings. Chief investigator MarĂa Claudia Rojas initiated a preliminary investigation against the 50-year-old in May 2020. "After examining the relevant documents and evidence", it was decided to discontinue "the proceedings because of a lack of credible evidence".
