The sports day: HSV professional was "afraid of even losing my leg"

HSV defender Ewerton worried about the continuation of his football career after the tumor diagnosis. A tumor in the left thigh of the 31-year-old Brazilian was removed in July. "I was afraid of even losing my leg, of never being able to play football again," said the defender of the second division Hamburger SV of "Sport Bild".

He described the days as the worst time of his life until the findings were available as to whether the tumor was benign or malignant. "I prayed to God, got moral support from my family in Brazil, friends here in Germany and from my advisor Jürgen Bühler," said Ewerton. Eventually the tumor turned out to be benign.
