Report: More than 100 doping offenders compete at the Olympics

Paris is expecting more than 10,500 athletes to take part in the Summer Olympics, at least 105 of whom are former doping offenders. This corresponds to a rate of one percent and is based on the Internet database “Anti-Doping Database” according to a report by the Norwegian broadcaster NRK. According to the report, athletics has the most previous cases, with more than a third, and tennis is also conspicuous, with twelve former offenders.

Among the athletes competing in the Games who have been charged with anti-doping rule violations are some prominent figures. For example, former Wimbledon and French Open champion Simona Halep from Romania, 2016 Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Ruth Jebet, who competes for Bahrain, or Briton Chijindu Ujah, who sprinted to silver with the 4x100m relay in 2021 – the medal was revoked after his positive test result.
