The state did not pay any aid
Maredo fires almost all employees

The steak house chain Maredo filed for bankruptcy in March. The second lockdown in November hits the company at a bad time. Now all employees have to go, except for a rump group.

The insolvent steak house chain Maredo has given notice to almost all employees. Because there is hardly any liquidity left for the payment of wages and salaries, one is forced to take this step, according to a letter from the executive floor to the workforce. Only a rump group in the administration continues to work for the time being.

Maredo filed for bankruptcy in March 2020. 15 of 35 restaurants were closed, around half of the approximately 950 employees had to leave. The corona-related closings from November were another setback.

According to the steak house chain, the state rejected the request for Corona help. The catering trade has been badly hit by the consequences of the pandemic, other companies are also under pressure – competitor Vapiano also went bankrupt in 2020.
