After the five-door Astra, Opel sends the station wagon into the running for the buyer’s favor. This is also available as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. So it can charge twice. The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer will make its debut in the course of 2022. It will probably cost around 1000 euros extra compared to the five-door model and start at around 23,500 euros.
The well-known engines are available for propulsion: a 1.2-liter three-cylinder, which is available in the versions with 110 HP and 130 HP, and a 1.5-liter diesel with 130 HP; the more powerful engines are available with an eight-speed automatic. Opel also offers the Sports Tourer as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). At the market launch, the variant with a system output of 133 kW / 180 PS will be available, the version with 165 kW / 225 PS will follow in the course of the year. As with the Peugeot 308 SW, the electric range should be at least 60 kilometers, while the Sports Tourer extends over a length of 4.64 meters. The wheelbase is 2.73 meters. This makes the new one six centimeters shorter than its predecessor, which was created under General Motors; however, the wheelbase has increased by 5.7 centimeters. The trunk volume has also grown. In the conventionally powered models, depending on the seat configuration, it is between 608 and 1634 liters, with the PHEV it is between 548 and 1574 liters. Like the five-door, the look of the station wagon has an independent Opel design. The front is shaped by the new trademark, the Vizor. Here the headlights and grill are conspicuously staged. The taillights are long and narrow. As with the five-door Astra, the C-pillar is reminiscent of a shark’s fin when viewed from the side. Inside, the digital operating unit called the “pure panel” dominates the driver’s workplace. However, Opel does not completely do without analog buttons. Air conditioning, seat and steering wheel heating or the volume can be operated using a switch or rotary knob. Depending on the equipment line or at a surcharge, matrix lights, head-up displays, EGR seats, leather and the class-standard assistants are available for the station wagon. (SPX)
