In order to understand what your storage requirements are, we asked you how many gigabytes your smartphone has. It’s time to pay attention to your answers.
As always in computing, storage capacities are increasing, including on smartphones. From 32 GB for the cheapest smartphones to 1 TB for the high-end models, the gap is huge. Thus, a 1TB model has more than 31 times the storage capacity of a 32GB model.
More and more storage, but less and less microSD cards
The increase in storage capacities is also noticeable in the mid-range. There are usually two versions: one with 128 GB of storage, the other with 256 GB. The last little surprise on this point is perhaps the Honor 90: sold at 600 euros, it offers a single configuration with 512 GB of storage.
At the same time, fewer and fewer smartphones offer a slot for a microSD card. Manufacturers tend to favor the use of two SIMs, or to gain as much space as possible, even if it means sacrificing this port. Also, with the arrival of cloud storage, it is possible to need less and less storage on your smartphone.
How many GB of storage does your smartphone have?
This was the subject of our weekly survey: how much storage space does your smartphone have? In other words, how many gigabytes are announced on the data sheet of your model? We do not take into account here a microSD card or the possible storage solution in the cloud that you will have subscribed.
Of nearly 1,500 survey participants, just under half (44.2%) benefit, unsurprisingly, from 128 GB of internal storage.
Quite far behind, 28.1% of respondents say they have 256 GB of storage space on their smartphones for a little more convenience. 11.2% of you benefit from a good capacity of 512 GB, when 9.1% are a little more cramped with 64 GB. Then, we are interested in the two extremes since there are as many people going all out with 1 TB than users content with a small space of 32 GB. (3.7% on both sides).
