The strike of liberal doctors renewed until January 8

The strike of the liberal doctors, which began on December 26, is renewed from Monday January 2, until the 8. The group Doctors for tomorrow plans a national demonstration Thursday afternoon in Paris, between the Pantheon and the ministry of health, where he should be received by François Braun.

“We contacted the Minister before Christmas, he replied that he would receive us on January 5, without making any other proposal to us”, explained the founder of the collective, Christelle Audigier. A request for a meeting with the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, remained unanswered, according to the general practitioner. “Faced with this policy of the ostrich, we have chosen to renew our movement until January 8”she added.

The negotiations started in November between the representatives of the private practitioners and the Health Insurance to define an agreement for the next five years have not, for the collective, brought “no concrete answer” allowing the “attractiveness shock” he demands, at a time when fewer and fewer young doctors want to settle down. Among the group’s flagship proposals figure the doubling of the basic consultation fee, from 25 to 50 euros.

Decline in the number of GPs in practice

Strong incentives are also requested to reduce medical deserts. Over the past ten years, the number of general practitioners working exclusively in private practice has fallen by 11%, from 64,142 in 2012 to 57,033 on 1er January 2022. At the same time, the number of GPs practicing both in practices and in hospitals almost doubled (from 4,780 to 8,437), which limited the decline in all GPs practicing in practices 5% over these ten years.

The Minister of Health, François Braun, had “firmly” sentenced, in a press release published on December 26, the closing of the cabinets and called, as it has done for several weeks, to make ” prevail [l’]spirit of responsibility” while emergency services are in “a critical situation”.
