More than 30 years later, the businessman wants to reestablish his version of the facts for the DailyMail : “I have a sense of humor about it, but it’s based on a lie (…) In a weird way, it’s a great honor to be on the show. He also adds that the whole scene was misinterpreted and that even though the attraction between him and Sarah Ferguson was “mutual and instantaneous”, the press turned a pretty story into something dirty and hyper-sexualized. Indeed he says that while they thought they were out of sight and from the objectives, the couple played “to fun games and pretend play” with the two young princesses, Béatrice and Eugénie, and their mother by the pool. As John Bryan mimicked the glass shoe scene from Cinderella and kissed the mother’s feet, the press then took the photos out of context: “It was a twisted, sick and fabricated narrative. They sexualized something so innocent. That was the most despicable part”.
