the suspect under another investigation for sexual assault

The 18-year-old man indicted on Saturday August 12 for the rape with torture of a young woman in Cherbourg (Manche) is the subject of another ongoing investigation for sexual assault on his sister and was sentenced to five taken up by a juvenile court, the prosecution reported.

The suspect was indicted in early August in Cherbourg for the “rape accompanied by torture or acts of barbarism” of a young woman who had been hospitalized in serious condition and whose “vital prognosis was engaged”announced on Saturday the parquet floor of Coutances (Manche).

The victim told investigators that he had been assaulted by a man “that she had already seen but that she did not know”. While in police custody, the man had finished “by laconically recognizing the facts likely to be attributed to him”according to the Cherbourg public prosecutor’s office, which transmitted the procedure to the Coutances public prosecutor’s office.

Convicted five times

“It appears from the criminal record of the person concerned that he was convicted five times by the juvenile judge and the juvenile court for acts of damage to property and violence”said the Coutances prosecutor’s office in a statement released Monday evening.

“A sexual assault procedure against his sister is currently under investigation, without it being possible at this stage to determine whether or not these facts have been established”adds Dorothée Thoumyre, deputy public prosecutor of Coutances. “In addition, a procedure for the rape of a minor initiated in 2019 was dismissed by the prosecution in 2020, on the grounds that the offense was not sufficiently characterized”she says.
