The Sweet: glam rock band says goodbye to Steve Priest

British musician Steve Priest passed away at the age of 72. He was a bass player and a founding member of the British glam rock band The Sweet. Guitarist Andy Scott (70) says goodbye to his bandmate on The Sweet's official Facebook account. "There was only one left," Scott writes about several old photos of himself and the deceased. The guitarist is now the only surviving founding member of the band. Singer Brian Connolly died in 1997, drummer Mick Tucker in 2002. Andy Scott was devastated.

Even when Priest's health deteriorated, he never expected this moment. He does not name a cause of death. "He was the best bass player I've ever played with," enthuses Priest. Together they would have had a "roller coaster ride". "Rest in peace, brother."

Who are the sweet?

The Sweet was one of the most successful glam rock groups in the 1970s. The quartet Brian Connolly, Mick Tucker, Steve Priest and Andy Scott founded the band. The biggest hits are "Ballroom Blitz", "Blockbuster", "Fox on the Run" or "Teenage Rampage". There have been two groups since the mid-1980s, one led by Scott in the UK and the second by Steve Priest in the US. Andy Scott currently plays with singer Paul Manzi, drummer Bruce Bisland and bassist Lee Small.
