The Sympathizer is one of our most anticipated series of the year 2024. Judge instead: an HBO series, produced by A24, based on a true story and a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, directed © by Park Chan-wook (Old Boy), and with a chameleon Robert Downey Jr. in the cast. And as if to give us even more reasons to be excited, the series has revealed a new trailer, and its release date.
An incredible true story
Adapted from the novel of the same name by Viet Thanh Nguyen, Pulitzer Prize winner in 2016, The Sympathizer tells the true story of a Franco-Vietnamese man, a spy for communist forces during the Vietnam War. Exiled to Los Angeles at the end of the Vietnam War, he was forced to return to service… for the Americans.

Images that promise a thrilling spy thriller, with a great cast. Alongside a Robert Downey Jr. (Avengers, Oppenheimer) protean, we find in the main role Hoa Xuande, seen in the live action remake of Cowboy Bebopbut also Sandra Oh (Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy).
This mini-series also has as much talent in front of the camera as behind. The seven episodes are thus written by Don McKellar (the film Blindness), and directed by Park Chan-wook (Old Boy, Miss), Fernando Meirelles (The City of God) and Marc Munden (Utopia).
The Sympathizer is also the new production of the independent studio A24, to which we owe the last great cinema slaps that are Everything Everywhere All at Once, Midsommar, Lady Bird, Hereditary or The Whale.
