Synology DS224+

  • Quality of Synology DSM software
  • Simple installation and management
  • Good overall performance
  • Better on HDD compatibility…
  • Perfect in multimedia (Emby, Plex)
  • Very (too) close to the DS220+
  • Still 1 GbE, alas
  • One SO-DIMM, no M.2 NVMe
  • …but Seagate/WD limitations

The power and intuitiveness of Soft Synology DSM, its flagship asset

The quality of the Synology DSM software is the main reason why the NAS is included in our comparison. Synology’s user interface is one of the best on the market, and it offers a multitude of features that will allow you to get the most out of your NAS.

Synology’s user interface is designed to be easy to understand, even for novice users. The menus are clear and well organized, and the options are easy to find.

Synology DSM offers a wide range of features. You can use your NAS to store files, share files, backup data, create a media server, host a website, and much more.

Finally, Synology regularly updates its software with new features and improvements. This ensures that your NAS remains up to date and secure.

And compared to other NAS in the same price range, what is the DS224+ worth?

Although they are slightly apart in price, the Synology DS224+ and the Asustor Drivestor 2 Pro AS3302T are quite comparable. These are two 2-bay models, but with a difference of around a hundred euros in favor of the Asustor brand device.

The performance of the DS224+ is higher, as evidenced by the processor frequency, at 2000 MHz compared to 1400 MHz. The Drivestor 2 Pro has the advantage of including a 2.5 GbE port, while Synology’s competing model continues to be confined to 1 GbE despite the evolution of the manufacturer’s ranges.

The DS224+ also justifies the price difference by its intuitiveness (assembly and management) and, above all, the quality of its software.

Synology and NAS are one

A Taiwanese company founded in 2000, Synology specializes in the design and manufacturing of network attached storage systems (NAS). And today, in this area, it is the world market leader.

Synology’s first NAS were released in 2004. They were based on Intel Atom processors and offered limited storage space. However, they quickly gained popularity thanks to their affordability and ease of use.

In 2011, Synology launched its DiskStation Manager (DSM) software, which revolutionized the NAS user experience. DSM is an intuitive and comprehensive user interface that offers a multitude of features.

In addition to the high performance and durability of its products, Synology has stood out from the competition thanks to the quality of this software.
