A serial killer in a white coat. On October 26, the film Murders without order will be available on Netflix. A real thriller, the story of this new project has everything of an ideal horror story for Halloween, but is actually from a true story. Directed by Tobias Lindholm, screenwriter on the film Drunk starring Viggo Mortensen, the film tells the story of a nurse played by Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) witnessing the arrest of one of his colleagues, played by Eddie Redmayne (Fantastic Beasts).

This nurse is Charles Cullen and it is not a character invented from scratch. Between 1988 and 2003, Charles Cullen killed dozens of patients in several hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the United States. During the murders or attempted murders, the nurse injected intravenous insulin, digoxin or adrenaline into his patients. Following repeated reports and an investigation by the New Jersey State Police, Charles Cullen was arrested. If, subsequently, he will justify his crimes by claiming to have wanted to avoid suffering for his patients, some of them were in reality not terminally ill and could recover.

The Charles Cullen affair, a turning point in the hospital environment

On March 2, 2006, Charles Cullen was sentenced to eleven consecutive sentences and was not legally eligible for parole until 2388. After this case became publicized, several of the hospitals in which he had worked were sued by the families of the victims. Apart from these institutions in particular, the entire American hospital system has been challenged.

Throughout his career, the nurse took advantage of a system that did not require employers to report suspicious behavior by medical employees and initiated procedures for reporting suspicious deaths only in the most obvious cases. As a result of this case, new laws were passed across the United States to combat this phenomenon and simplify reporting of medical errors.
